Coal Age Recognizes Top Performers at Longwall USA 2015

More than 2,000 people attended the 2015 Longwall USA International Conference & Exhibition that took place during June at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. After Hal Quinn, president and CEO, National Mining Association, delivered the keynote address, Coal Age presented the 2015 Longwall USA Top Performers Awards to three longwall mine operators.

Cordero Rojo Receives State of Wyoming Reclamation Award

More than 50,000 people have visited the Powell River projects to learn about mine reclamation.Cloud Peak Energy’s Cordero Rojo mine, located near Gillette, Wyoming, received the 2015 State of Wyoming Reclamation Award from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Land Quality Division for the successful restoration of the Belle Fourche River. The award was presented at the Wyoming Mining Association’s Annual Safety and Reclamation Banquet in Cody, Wyoming, on June 19.

Peabody Energy Recognizes 2 Mines for Safety

Peabody Energy’s Cottage Grove surface operation in southern Illinois has earned both the company’s Chairman’s Award and President’s Award for its safety achievements in 2014. The Saline County mine received the honor for its record as the safest U.S. performance for surface operations last calendar year. It is a three-time winner of the President’s Award, having already achieved the best safety performance for Peabody Energy surface mines in 2012 and 2013.

Arch Coal’s Mountain Coal Co. West Elk underground operation in Somerset, Colorado, has received the state’s top mining safety award for 2014 as well as two state environmental honors.

Western Fuels Association Mine Celebrates 5 Years Injury-free

Western Fuels Association’s Dry Fork mine completed five years without a lost time incident on December 31. The five-year span represents 768,362 employee hours, during which Dry Fork mine shipped 28 million tons of coal and handled 42.7 million cubic yards of overburden and topsoil.
