Rhino Resource Partners appointed Richard A. Boone as chief executive officer of Rhino GP, effective January 1. Boone served as president of Rhino GP since September and prior to that as executive vice president and CFO. Boone will succeed Joseph E. Funk, who served as CEO since November 2014. Funk will serve as a senior advisor to the partnership from January 1 through March 31.

Stanmore Coal Ltd. appointed Dan Clifford the new managing director. He was appointed CEO of Solid Energy New Zealand in 2014. Previously, Clifford held the position of general manager of the Ulan Complex at Glencore.

Westmoreland Coal Co. announced that CFO and Treasurer Jason Veenstra has decided to resign. Veenstra has elected not to relocate to the company’s Denver headquarters. While Westmoreland conducts a search to include internal and external candidates, Gary Kohn, vice president of investor relations, will serve as interim chief financial officer and treasurer, effective immediately.

Peabody Energy announced that A. Verona Dorch was named among the Most Influential Women in Corporate America by Savoy magazine. Dorch joined Peabody as executive vice president, chief legal officer, government affairs, and corporate secretary in August 2015. She has more than 20 years of experience couseling global businesses, which includes more than 10 years as in-house counsel and multiyear secondment in Tokyo.

Buffalo Coal Corp. appointed Rowan Karstel as interim chief executive officer and Graham du Preez as interim chief financial officer and corporate secretary. Karstel has a wide range of cross commodity mining experience and has performed at the senior management levels at several mining companies in South Africa and Mozambique. Du Preez is currently also serving as the CFO of Alloycorp Mining Inc. (formerly Avanti Mining Inc.), a position he will continue to hold.

Terry L. Headley has been named communications director for the American Coal Council (ACC). Before joining ACC, he spent more than eight years as director of communications for the West Virginia Coal Association, and during this time he was also instrumental in expanding the Friends of Coal network and social media presence.

J. Tyler White has been named president of the Kentucky Coal Association replacing Bill Bissett. White has been district director for U.S. Rep. Andy Barr’s Sixth District office since 2012.

Glen Barton, former Caterpillar chair-
man and CEO, died October 25, 2016, in Peoria, Illinois, at the age of 77. Barton retired in 2004 after nearly 43 years with Caterpillar, the last five as chairman and CEO. Barton joined Caterpillar in 1961 and held numerous positions in marketing and general management. He worked in Geneva, Switzerland, and became manager for South American sales in 1972. In 1977, he became manager of the merchandising division and later became U.S. sales and product support manager for the industrial lift truck division, then vice president of products control, president of Solar Turbines, a Caterpillar subsidiary, and several other positions before becoming chairman and CEO in 1999. In 2012, Barton was recognized for helping pave the way for the company’s leadership in the global mining industry with his induction into the National Mining Hall of Fame.
