MSHA Issues Notice for Underground Dust and Proximity Systems

Because of a recently discovered interference problem between proximity detection systems and respirable dust sampling devices, MSHA is temporarily delaying its own respirable coal mine dust sampling, and the requirement that coal mine operators conduct respirable coal mine dust sampling, in areas where both the sampling device and the proximity detection system are used at the same time.

ZEI, Matec to Develop Automatic Flocculant Dosing System

Zinkan Enterprises, Inc. (ZEI) is working with Matec to provide an automatic system for the preparation, dosing and metering of flocculants. This flocculant metering system consists of a hopper, a metering worm screw-pump and a regulator. Referred to as Bifloc, this system consists of a photocell-based system to control and regulate the flocculant according to the amount of suspended solid particles. This design for monitoring settling time ensures the precise amount of flocculant every time. As a result, the system guarantees a 30-50% average product savings and a return of perfectly clarified water.
