Joy Global to Close Pennsylvania Plant

Equipment maker Joy Global has confirmed it will close its Franklin, Pennsylvania, manufacturing plant and lay off its workforce by July 1. Company spokeswoman Caley Clinton said the facility, known as Plant 1, mainly makes drums and performs the fabrication and machining of smaller components. That work, she said, will be transitioned to other Joy Global locations and alliance partners — some immediately, with the remainder moving over the coming months.

The i-ALERT2 Equipment Health Monitor, a system developed by ITT Goulds Pumps, has been named a winner of Processing magazine’s 2015 Breakthrough Products of the Year. Released in May, the system combines the latest in Bluetooth low-energy with sensor technologies commonly used in the newest consumer health and fitness trackers and smart watches.
