IronWorx, LLC recently acquired Magnum Steel Works. Located on the west side of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Magnum specializes in the machining, welding and manufacturing arenas. In addition to other work, the company rebuilds underground coal mining equipment including continuous miners, battery-powered haulers and longwall equipment.

Ken Harrison, an engineer turned entrepreneur, was the driving force behind this acquisition. He said his plan is to grow Magnum Steel Works, maintaining the mining equipment rebuild and overhaul work, while diversifying into other areas that require large steel fabrication work.

“Magnum Steel Works has built a strong reputation and a culture of excellence. I am honored to build on the foundation established by the previous owner and take it into new markets,” Harrison said. “Our mission is to continue innovating, serving our customers with dedication, and driving excellence in every facet of our operations. By advancing the legacy of Magnum Steel Works, we aim to make a positive impact on our customers, suppliers, employees, and the community.”

Since its founding in 2005, Magnum Steel Works has grown from a 12,000 ft2 shop to a state-of-the-art 128,000 ft2 steel fabrication facility. Over the years, the company continued to purchase equipment to service its customers’ needs as they changed.

Magnum Steel Works is actively hiring for several key positions, including electricians, heavy equipment mechanics, CNC machinists, and TIG welders. This expansion represents not only growth for the company but also valuable opportunities for skilled professionals in the region.
