Komatsu dedicated a significant amount of its massive MINExpo exhibit to its Joy-branded equipment, like the Joy 12HM26 continuous miner. With a total mass of more than 95,000 kg, the 12HM26 boasts 750 kW of total power.

“At Komatsu, we’ve been delivering innovative mining solutions for more than 100 years,” said Komatsu’s Director of Business Development, Jim Haughey. “The family of Joy 12HM continuous miners is a testament to our dedication to providing equipment that meets and exceeds the rigorous demands of the underground market. They are powerful, flexible and equipped with advanced automation technologies prioritizing productivity and enhancing safety.”

A primary feature of the machine is the integration of automation technologies that support remote management and operator assistance for underground operations. It can be equipped with a proximity detection system with dynamic zones that interact seamlessly with manual operations, boosting safety and efficiency.

Highlighting its latest advancements in longwall mining product solutions, The Komatsu display also included the next-generation Joy J7500 shearer ranging arm, which will offer greater productivity, power and reliability over its J525 predecessor. A longer arm enables an improved cutting in the tailgate with a 50% increase in motor power and increased geartrain life. Notable maintenance improvements, such as gob-side water seal access and a modular planetary subassembly, enhance efficiency.

Komatsu also showcased its Longwall Command and Control system, which removes operators from hazardous environments and enabling remote management of equipment. This solution allows for centralized management of mining equipment and brings consistency, productivity and safety to a new level, the company said.
