Located approximately halfway between Dallas and Houston, the Jewett mine employs 450 people and currently produces 4 to 7 million tons per year (tpy) of coal, representing 15% of total annual lignite production in Texas. The mine supplies coal to the adjacent Limestone Electric Generating Station under a long-term contract. Texas is the sixth largest coal producing state, mining approximately 45 million tons of lignite annually.
