Russian mining company Mechel PAO has put a new longwall into operation at the VI Lenina underground mine, which is part of Southern Kuzbass Coal Co. The new longwall panel’s coking coal reserves are estimated at 560,000 metric tons (mt).
The longwall is 190 meters long, with an average seam height of 3 meters, the extraction panel is approximately 730 meters. The longwall is equipped with 130 shield-type roof supports and a shearer loader. All equipment is up to modern safety standards.
“The new longwall’s launch will enable us to drastically increase the mine’s output capacity and coking coal mining volumes,” Mechel Mining Management OOO CEO Igor Khafizov said. “The monthly load is planned at 70,000 to 80,000 mt. The coal will be supplied to Russian and foreign steelmakers.”
Total investment in the project was 400 million rubles (US$6.09 million).
