“If this situation continues where the federal government is unfairly persecuting the coal mining industry, we as a country will lose hundreds of thousands of jobs,” said Bryan Brown, executive director of the WV FACES of Coal. “Miners, families of miners, business people from all industries are coming to Washington, D.C., to make sure Congress knows how desperate the situation is; we are standing up for our jobs!”
Sens Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Jim Webb (D-VA), Mark Warner (D-VA) and Carte Goodwin (D-VA), and West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, along with Congresswoman Shelley Capito (R-WV), and Congressmen Rick Boucher (D-VA) and Nick Rahall (D-WV) showed their support.
The Federation for American Coal, Energy and Security (FACES of Coal) is an alliance of more than 60,000 people from all walks of life who are joining forces to educate lawmakers and the general public about the importance of coal and coal mining to local and national economies, and to the nation’s energy security. In addition to keeping tens of thousands of people employed in good-paying jobs, coal is the lifeblood of domestic energy supply, generating nearly half of the electricity consumed in the United States today.
