The three-day conference, which regularly attracts more than 300 attendees, will convene at its regular venue, the Lakeview Conference Center in Morgantown. In its history, Morgantown has served as host 32 times.
This year’s discussion topics include void fill and support techniques, characteristics of pumpable roof supports, pillar stability and roof bolting techniques, and machinery.
The conference was initially founded by longtime industry expert and West Virginia University Charles E. Lawall Chair in Mining Engineering Emeritus Syd Peng. More than 1,500 ground control papers have been published as a result of the conference.
Common international delegate countries attending ICGCM include Europe, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Beginning in 2017, ICGCM will transfer management to the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME). It will remain in Morgantown, as in the past.
