With power facilities and utility companies realizing the consequences of having insufficient coal ash containment and with new EPA regulations pending, GSE took proactive measures to provide the energy industry with a first of its kind containment system that combines three of the company’s proven geosynthetic products that meet or exceed regulatory standards to maximize groundwater protection and minimize both risks and costs.
“The development of the Coal Ash Barrier System encompasses everything GSE is about,” said Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing Peter McCourt. “Every department within the company came together to support the development efforts that in the long run, translates to support of our sales team. This kind of collaboration is what allows us to provide innovative, purpose-fit solutions that aid in the success of our customers, enhance our solutions and drive greater value.”
GSE collaborated with leading utility companies, U.S. government officials, including those in the EPA, and Ohio State, the top university involved in the research of coal ash, to develop the new system, which consists of GSE’s Bentoliner Coal Ash Resistant Geosynthetic Clay Liner, Leak Location Liner and CoalDrain Geocomposite.
“This is a very important launch for us,” said GSE Global Director of Marketing Steve Eckhart. “The Coal Ash system will not only provide our customers with a faster, more reliable and more cost-effective way to contain coal ash, but it opens up a host of future opportunities to positively affect the environment and the energy industry around the world.”
