Middlesboro will serve industrial and utility markets as well as existing Appolo customers. Altogether, said company officials, the Knoxville-based JW will control 85 million proven and probable thermal coal reserve tons in the Central Appalachian basin.
The new purchase contains permits, contracts and infrastructure, including a preparation plant and train load-out facility, according to company officials; JW also operates the Straight Creek and Red Bird thermal operations, both in Kentucky.
