The idle, which was effective at midnight February 23, is expected to last for two weeks; crews could return to work March 7.
MEC said it will continue to process and ship coal during this period, with no interruptions to customer deliveries.
The Marion County mine, formerly known as Loveridge, was one of several operations MEC purchased from CONSOL Energy in 2013.
