The operations helped drive the best safety results in Peabody’s 130-year history, according to company officials; the awards were based on 2012 statistics.
Eaglefield employees were noted for operating the safest open-cut operation, achieving zero incidents for the third consecutive year, incident-free for more than 41 months; the Queensland mine employs about 220 people. Wambo mine workers were honored for safest underground operation by reducing incident rates 38% year-on-year; the New South Wales mine has a workforce of 250; employees at Queensland’s Burton mine received the most improved safety performance award based on an injury rate reduction of 50% since 2011.
