Three southern African countries signed a deal to proceed with a rail and port project to help land-locked Botswana export coal through Mozambique, Bloomberg reported. The African Development Bank has agreed to finance a feasibility study for the project at a cost of about $4 million, said Mateus Magala, transport and communications minister for Mozambique at a signing ceremony in July. The project involves upgrading existing railways through Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and the construction of a new deep-water port south of Maputo.
