Renowned Canadian mining executive Pierre Lassonde said he is still interested in acquiring Teck Resources’ coal assets, Bloomberg reported, and is waiting on the company to decide what it will do next after it failed to spin the coal business off as Elk Valley Resources (EVR).

Lassonde is the founder of Franco-Nevada and a former president of Newmont. He has joined a number of his Canadian colleagues, who have said they believe Teck and EVR should remain Canadian owned, after the Swiss company Glencore placed a takeover proposal. Canada’s Globe and Mail reported Lassonde and a group of investors could submit a bid for EVR.
