Liberty Coal’s first shipment of coal arrived at the Richard’s Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in South Africa during early April, according to the Citizen. Liberty acquired Optimum Coal assets and settled legal disputes with Transnet that allowed the company to ship coal to RBCT and use Optimum Coal’s export allocations.
After taking operational control of the Optimum mine in February, Liberty has been working to resolve disputes with the mine’s creditors. The settlement with Transnet and RBCT caps a series of legal battles that have played out over the past four years involving the mine’s rescue plans.
