Irwin Car displayed a belt-powered trickle duster at the U.S. Coal Show, which took place during May in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The machine is used to spread rock dust in areas around the beltline, which are not usually as easily accessible with other units. The return side of the conveyor spins a lag roller, which turns a shaft that powers a blower. As much as 25 ft of hose connects the blower to a barrel holding rock dust and miners can use another 25-ft hose extending from the blower to rock dust the beltline. “This is a great option for rock dusting hard to reach places that do not have access to electricity,” said Matt Fiori, vice president of energy products for Irwin Car and Equipment Co. “It’s a specialty piece of equipment that’s very popular in the coalfields.”
