Guardvant has been selected by Cloud Peak Energy (CPE), a leading coal company with three operations in the Powder River Basin, to supply the OpGuard Operator Fatigue and Alertness Monitoring System.
“A key factor in our decision to move to Guardvant was the service and quick response they provided. Operator fatigue is widely recognized as a leading cause of mining accidents involving mining equipment. Fatigue event data captured by OpGuard provides mine managers with verifiable information to be used as part of their fatigue risk management program.
Guardvant’s suite of products improves safety in the mining environment while increasing productivity of operators through on-board applications for fatigue monitoring and collision avoidance. When combined, OpGuard and ProxGuard, which are installed on heavy equipment and light vehicle fleets, provide fatigue monitoring and improve the equipment operator’s situational awareness. The Guardvant Mobile Server on-board computer and Guardvant Mobile Router communications platform provide flexible options to streamline installation and use of multiple on-board applications regardless of the application brand.
Cat Rebuild Upgrade Boosts Productivity for Haul Trucks
Caterpillar and Cat dealers now offer a Certified Rebuild Upgrade (CCRU) service for older 785 and 789 haul trucks. The rebuild program for the original series and the B Series models of these trucks incorporates the technological advancements introduced with the C Series to improve operation and performance and reduce engine emissions.
The CCRU provides a full rebuild and certified rebuild warranty along with a Cat upgrade retrofit cab and chassis updates. The results are improved fuel economy, performance and productivity, as well as a modernized cab for operator comfort and improved engine emissions equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 1 standards for sustainable operation.
The Cat 3512B EUI engine for the 785 and the 3516B EUI engine for the 789 deliver about 5% more power and provide the potential for fuel savings of 3% to 4%. Also, recommended service intervals are extended from 250 to 500 hours.
The upgrade cab includes VIMS 4.0 for monitoring machine health and optimizing production cycles to reduce cost per ton. The full-size trainer seat facilitates on-site training to help the operator perform safely and efficiently.
TMEIC Announces New Remote Diagnostic Center
TMEIC Customer Support has completed remodeling and installation of equipment to support a new Remote Diagnostic Center (RDC). It will offer responsive customer support to resolve faults, resulting in less downtime and lower repair costs. The RDC will also address the challenges of supporting mines remotely when field engineers are not immediately available to be on-site. The service allows TMEIC engineers to establish reliable remote sessions using multiple protocols. Once connected, TMEIC engineers can directly control systems and drives, or monitor and assist the customer in troubleshooting, adjusting or collecting fault data.

Trimble Acquires MIS
Trimble Navigation has announced the acquisition of Australia-based Mining Information Systems (MIS); the deal will enhance enterprise-level information management through cross-functional geospatial, workforce, and cost data to support decisions and productivity. Financial terms were undisclosed.
MIS provides systems for monitoring and management of mining and processing operations. “MIS unlocks a complete view of productivity and profitability across planning, operations and finance,” said Mining Division Business Director Nathan Pugh.
David Prance, managing director of Perth-based MIS, said, “Trimble’s leadership in geospatial technologies will be integral to productivity and control applications in the resources sector.”
