The agreement includes a 10-year operating partnership with CONSOL Energy, plus additional five-year options to operate the facility, coupled with an environmentally sustainable design and construction approach. Veolia Water will be treating mine water from the company’s Blacksville No. 2, Loveridge and Robinson Run mining operations. Full operation of the treatment facility is expected to commence by May 2013.
Veolia Water is a leader in sustainable environmental services and it will rely on its expertise to design this new system which will treat high-volume mine water with numerous constituents.
“Veolia is the perfect partner with which to collaborate,” said Katharine Fredriksen, senior vice president environmental strategy and regulatory affairs, CONSOL. “They bring design and operational experience with over 75 Zero Liquid Discharge plants around the world.”
“CONSOL is demonstrating a responsible and sustainable approach to managing mine water,” said Steve Hopper, executive vice president, Veolia Water Americas Industrial Business Group. “We believe this partnership will prove to be highly successful given CONSOL Energy’s 150 years of energy-sector operational expertise and our 155 years of water treatment experience.”
The Veolia team will be using local construction partners and personnel from its Pittsburgh office.
