Approvals for Chinese power plants for the first half of 2023 are outpacing 2022 and already exceed the total for 2021, according to Greenpeace research. Local governments approved nearly 30 gigawatts (GW) of new coal power capacity in Q2 2023, driving total approvals to 50.4 GW for the first half of the year.
